INCREASED PRODUCTIVITY WITH SPECIAL CYLINDERS

MECOCHINA’s annual production of cylinders reaches an impressive 15,000 tons, divided between cast iron cylinders, high speed steel (HSS) cylinders and tungsten carbide cylinders, each with specific applications and advantages. Cast iron cylinders are made from various materials, such as pearlitic nodular, bainitic nodular and admixture, and are ideal for roughing, pre-finishing and finishing long products such as rebar and wire rod. With short delivery times, the possibility of customization and competitive prices, these cylinders offer an excellent cost-benefit ratio.

HSS rolls, produced from high purity raw materials, stand out for their uniform hardness and resistance to breakage, chipping and cracking. Applied in finishing and pre-finishing bar rolling mills, as well as in wire rod ring groups and narrow strip mills, these rolls offer superior performance and a long service life, even serving high-precision equipment such as KOCKS and PSM systems.

Tungsten carbide rolls, on the other hand, represent the pinnacle in wear resistance and surface quality of finished products. With annual production of 1,500 tons, these cylinders multiply production capacity by up to ten times compared to cast iron cylinders and by four times compared to HSS, offering excellent performance in severe applications.

MECOCHINA is presenting two technological launches at Metallurgy that will further raise standards in the steel industry. The first is the Reinforced HSS Cylinder, with diameters ranging from 280 mm to 650 mm. It has a surface hardness of HSD82-89 and a hardness drop of less than 3 HSD every 10 mm. This guarantees greater stability, less grinding loss and the possibility of reuse for 8 to 10 cycles. The roll can operate continuously for up to 12 hours, offering up to 30% more rolling passes compared to conventional HSS and four times more than cast iron rolls.

The second highlight is the Tungsten Carbide Composite Rolls with Steel Core. This innovation solves classic TC ring problems such as dynamic imbalance, excess weight and overheating cracks. With its low-cost carbon steel core and flexible composite layer, the new design significantly reduces the cost of acquisition and increases operational safety. It also improves thermal dissipation and dynamic balancing, extending the life of the roller housing and reducing failures.
